There are a number of blood tests the doctor might choose to do, the list that follows are the most likely that the doctor will choose from.
Aldolase Test:
Aldolase is a substance found especially in the muscles. When muscles are damaged, the muscle cells break open and spill there contents into the blood, therefore the amount of Aldolase in the blood shows the extent of muscle damage. As the muscle damage becomes worse, the amount of Aldolase found in the muscle will decrease over time.
Since Muscle weakness can be due to a neurological or a muscular problem then this test will find which is causing the weakness. The amount of Aldolase in the muscle will not change when the weakness is caused by a neurological problem.
Antinuclear Antibodies Test
Antinuclear Antibodies Test is also known as a (ANA Test). Antibodies are an important part of our immune system, they fight off infection, viruses and other "invaders". Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA) are found in the blood of those people whose immune systems are more likely to fight there bodies own tissues, or those people with autoimmune diseases.
Creatine Phosphokinase Test:
Creatine Kinase ( Known as CPK or CK) is a type of protein called an enzyme that helps a reaction to occur. The normal function of CPK in our cells is to turn creatine into phosphate, which is burned as a quick source of energy by our cells.
When our muscles become damaged, the muscle cells break open and spill the contents into the blood stream. Because most of the Creatine Phosphokinase in the body normally exists in the muscle then a rise in the amount of CPK in the bloodstream is an indication that muscle damage has or is occurring.
