A to C
Acquired Immune System : Is the part of the immune system that develops as a person grows. It employs antibodies and specialized white blood cells to fight harmful substances.
Aldolase: Is an enzyme that helps convert glucose into energy, it is found throughout the body but is primarily in high levels in muscle tissue. it is elevated in the blood stream when a patient has muscle or liver damage or disease.
Antibody: Antibodies are proteins produced by the body's immune system when it detects harmful substances called Antigens.(examples of antigens include microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses. Antibodies are also produced when the immune system mistakenly considers healthy tissue a harmful substance.
Antigen : Is a foreign substance that triggers the production of antibodies when it is introduced into the body.
Anti-jo-1 Antibody: Protein associated with a higher incidence of interstitial Lung disease (ILD). This autoantibody is found in about 25 percent of myositis
patients
Antirheumatic : Antirheumatic is a type of medicine that acts against diseases that has inflammation or pain in the muscles or/and joints. Types of antirheumatic treatment include Methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine.
Arthritis : Inflammation or swelling of the body,s joint
As
Autoantibodies : Autoantibodies are antibodies (immune proteins) that mistakenly target and damage specific organs or tissues of the body. One or more autoantibodies may be produced by a persons immune system when it fails to distinguish between "self" and "non-self" proteins.
Autoimmunity: One of the functions of the immune system is to protect the body by reacting to invading micro organisms, such as viruses or bacteria, by producing antibodies or sensitized lymphocytes. (types of white blood cells). Under normal circumstances, an immune response can not be triggered against the cells of your own body. In certain cases immune cells make a mistake and attack the cells they are supposed to protect, this can lead to a variety of autoimmune diseases.
Avascular Necrosis : ( Osteonecrosis ) Avascular Necrosis is the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply, this can lead to tiny breaks in the bone and the bones eventual collapse. Blood supply can be interrupted if the bone is fractured or the joint becomes dislocated.Avascular Necrosis can also be cause by long term use of high dose steroid medication.
Azathioprine : Azathioprine is an Immunosuppressant drug that is used to suppress the immune system. Azathioprine is a prodrug which is converted in the body to its active form called mercaptopurine
Benign acute myositis : A child suddenly has trouble walking and complains of severe leg pain. This pain is often worst in the calf muscles. In most cases, the child also has a history of recent fever, runny nose, sore throat and other upper respiratory symptoms

Calcinosois : Calcinosis refers to hardened lumps or sheets of calcium deposits under the skin in fatty tissues or muscle. It is estimated that about 30 % of children who develop Juvenile Dermatomyositis develop calcinosis
Cataract : Clouding over the lens of the Eye that blocks light and distorts vision. Cataracts can be a side effect of Prednisolone (Prednisone) and other medicines used to treat various forms of Myositis. If you are on these medications it is advisable to have regular ete checks.
CellCept : An immunosuppressant borrowed from transplant medicine
Ciclosporin : Ciclosporin is a type of drug known as a disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD). These drugs have the effect of dampening down the underlying disease process, rather than treating symptoms. Ciclosporin reduces the activity of the immune system so it is always used with care.
Contracture : Contracture is a permanent shortening of a muscle or joint.
Corticosteroids : (prednisone) A Corticosteroid medicine is commonly used as a first choice medicine with usually fast results in the treatment of polymyositis, Juvenile myositis, and Dermatomyositis. Corticosteroids slow the body's immune system and stop the inflammatory attack on Muscle, Skin and other body systems.
Creatine Kinase: is an Enzyme that, during muscular activity, catalyzes the transfer of a phosphoryl group from phosphocreatine in muscle to produce ATP. Creatine Kinase is found in the Skeletal and Myocardial muscle and also in the brain. It occurs in elevated levels in the blood following injury to brain or muscle tissue.
Cyclophosphamide : Cyclophosphamide is a type of drug known as a disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD). These drugs have the effect of dampening down the underlying disease process, rather than treating symptoms. Cyclophosphamide reduces the activity of the immune system so it is always used with care.
